115: Strategic
Enrollment Basics
Activity: Asking the
Right Questions
Resources your staff member will need:
People: Direct the staff
member(s) to an individual that has access to
institutional enrollment funnel data and summary
statistics for the past year.
Supplies: Enrollment data and/or reports for the
past year and a list of enrollment and recruitment
activities for the past year and for the upcoming year.
Technology: The staff member(s) will need a
computer with word processing capability, Microsoft
Excel and a printer.
Work Product Form:
If no modifications occur, the work product for this
activity will take the form of a recruitment funnel
worksheet and a report on the effect the admissions
counselor can have on funnel metrics. The standard work
product may be modified if so desired.
The Staff Member’s Task:
Direct the staff member(s) to an individual at the
institution with access to institutional data for each of
the recruitment funnel stages for the past three years and a
list of all of the admissions events planned for the
upcoming year. Once the information has been obtained the
staff member should complete the worksheet contained in the
ACBT 115 Exercise 1.xls file. This is a Microsoft
Excel file. The directions within the file will assist in
the completion of the worksheet.
Upon completion of the worksheet, the staff member(s) should
briefly discuss in written form how they will be able to
affect each of the numbers on the worksheet. The discussion
should include both a general approach and at least one
specific thing that can be added or changed in order to
increase funnel efficiency.
